It means the provider's evidence-based training, skills, and knowledge as a health and wellness coach have been validated at a professional competency level by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching.

In addition to completing an NBHWC-approved educational program including a real-time coaching practical skills assessment, national board certification also requires conducting and documenting a minimum of 50 complete coaching sessions before taking and passing a proctored four-hour standardized written examination administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners, and continuing training as required ongoing professional development. More information about these standards is available here: https://nbhwc.org/.
